A surgical procedure used to increase the size or shape of a woman’s breasts is termed as Augmentation Mammoplasty (clinical term) or Breast Augmentation or breast enlargement surgery. This cosmetic surgery meant to enhance breast size typically happens through the placement of silicone or saline breast implants. From a surgeon’s perspective, the ultimate objective of performing breast augmentation is to work on the patient’s natural portion to create a much symmetrical look. This, in turn, results in a visually pleasing breast area.
As for the candidates, there is no particular breast augmentation surgery patient with a purpose. Women choose to take up the procedure for multiple reasons. A typical reason would include having breasts that are larger in shape. However, they choose breast augmentation, considering it as the most effective surgical procedure to work on the asymmetry of their breasts. Having said that, breast implants surgery is preferred to fix the breast dis-figuration that is apparent.
Breast augmentation is less likely to work on seriously weak breasts. If you wish to reform your breasts to seem fuller or lifted, then a breast lift may be applicable in this case. Breast Lifting procedure comes in conjunction with this Mammoplasty procedure. Breast lifting can be performed within the same time frame as the augmentation one. A breast implant is a kind of prosthesis that is used to change the various parameters of the breast like shape, size, contour, and so on. Different kinds of breast implants exist. Each surgery is decided or performed depending on the type of material used in it and considering the patient’s body type and condition. The types of breast implants are explained in brief below.
Saline breast implants are made of silicone shells on the outer region. These implants are first inserted into the females and then they are filled in with sterile saline or saltwater. These types of implants are mainly used for women of age 18 for breast augmentation and women of any age for breast reconstruction.
Silicone breast implants are the fourth generation implants that are made of a silicone shell present on the outer region which is filled with a gel made of silicone. The shells present in it are smooth and textured and these implants are mainly used in the females with an age of 22 or older for breast augmentation and they are also used for breast reconstruction in the females of any age.
Gummy bear breast implants are the fifth generation implants, made of a textured shell with cohesive gel inside it. These implants are highly cohesive and strong due to the material in it and even after cutting, the implants can maintain the shape like a gummy bear candy. A deep incision needs to be made into the skin and there is a problem with these implants like the hardening of implants in the long run.
Round breast implants are the traditional kind of implants which is opted by most of the women in breast augmentation. Because of the same shape all around the implants, the risk of out of the place rotation is very less in these implants.
Smooth breast implants are one of the majorly used implants due to the no dragging of implants after they are once placed in the body. The interesting feature of these implants is that they have thin skin and it makes them smoother and softer compared to the textured implants. These implants have the advantage of less rippling.
Textured breast implants are mainly developed for the reason of not moving them within the breast pockets which are created by surgeons. The movement of implants is restricted with the help of roughness created in them and it helps to adhere to the tissues. The major disadvantage with these is they tend to leak and ripple more frequently than smooth implants.
